The Importance of English Language in Information Systems

English is the dominant business and academic language
and it has become almost a necessity for people to speak English if they are to
enter a global workforce. Even research from all over the world shows that
cross-border business communication is most often conducted in English—which
means being knowledgeable in English will make one to be more resourceful.
Learning English can change our life because its importance in the global
market place is unquestionable. Basically, language and the way we use words
conveys intelligence and authority. It’s no wonder why people who have strong
English vocabulary receive more attention and respect from their partners,
colleagues, subordinates and authority figures. Anyone who are genius in
particular field may be highly respected for their technical skills, but if
they couldn’t properly communicate what they meant, it will surely affect their
social skill which is equally important as technical skill. In short, it might
communicate a lack of intelligence.
A number of studies have consistently showed that people
who have advanced knowledge of English language are much likely to advance in
their careers or academics. Those with a strong command of the English language
will lead to higher pay (for workers) and better understanding of something
(for students). The world is changing rapidly, globalization is one of the
reason that could bring that change. Even though there are still pros and cons,
it’s better for us to be prepared otherwise we can get left behind. Although it
is not possible that other language might take over English as the
international language, there are still many of the world’s most powerful
corporations are based in English-speaking countries such as United States and
Great Britain. That being said, there is still a high demand for people in
foreign countries who can speak English.
English is important to information systems for various
reasons. The field of information systems bridges business and computer
science. English is the international language of trade currently, and so the
two are interlinked in terms of being able to operate many systems—and since
many programs are produced or made in English-speaking countries, it is
essential for people to understand English language. With companies have
increased their hiring standards and found ways to cut costs by bringing
immigrants into the country on work visas, we will need to master English
language as a prime tool of communication at collaborative workplace. That’s
the importance of English in Information Systems work field.
As in academic field, having proper English skill can
make students have better access to information. Since a vast majority of
information on the internet is in English. What is more, the commands for many
programs are in English, and so a program might now respond to other language
commands unless it was specifically reprogrammed to understand those languages.
Most IS products are first created with English interface or user
communicattion and then upgraded with other language support. Even if the user
is able to use a program in another language, at the base level it may be
programmed in English.
